3D’s President's Message
I found early in life that the people you surround yourself with determine your quality-of-life. Therefore, the 3D organization, from outset, has only employed “first choice” people. A service provider is only as good as its people. It is a joy to spend year after year with our employees.
Although 3D serves private industry and public works of communities, most of our business comes from low bid contracts for communities. This low price pressure places enormous stress upon 3D’s vision of doing all things with excellence. A construction process with effort on excellence at the core keeps all stakeholders in a more cooperative spirit, and results in a high quality facility.
Safeguarding and betterment of the Construction Industry has always been a way-of-life for us at 3D. The organization of choice to carry out our efforts is AGC (Associated General Contractors) of America. Many of us serve on committees. I am a Board of Director (for life) of AGC of America.
We at 3D embrace the “GREEN” movement. I must admit that upon first hearing the term “sustainable development” I was skeptical. However, after exploring the depth of its’ potential impact, I whole-heartedly embrace “development that meets the needs of the present, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”
Today it is nearly impossible to have a construction contract with fair terms and conditions. We at 3D strongly believe that pre-bid communication efforts with the Architect/Engineer (A/E) are essential in this regard. We find that most A/E’s welcome inquiries about project requirements and recommendations, in order to make them more fair and balanced.
We at 3D fear greatly the continued fragmentation of the construction industry. Once upon-a-time, we personally knew many of the designers and our competitors’ people, through community and social activities. Today, due to larger service areas and different life styles, little is known about each other when entering the construct phase. Our direct mail program attempts to keep A/E’s, customers, and influencer's in touch with 3D.
Lastly, the 3D organization is always interested in community involvement. While our work schedules pose a serious conflict with involvement efforts, our employees still strive to make it happen. Community involvement gives 3D employees a better lifestyle and sense of fulfillment in the community.
